Post 16

Careers meetings

What to expect in a 1-1 Post-16 Careers Meeting:

The Post-16 meetings are a great opportunity for students to talk about the different choices and places of study available to them after Year 11.

Not sure what to expect? Watch here

What will be discussed?

Who will the meeting be with?

Students will be speaking with a fully qualified and impartial Careers Adviser. If it is more comfortable bringing an adult with you, just let us know and this can be arranged. The Careers Adviser may be Hannah or Julia at Bay House.

Where will the meeting take place?

At Bay House, the meeting could be in Careers Room 1 or Careers Room 2 at the bottom of O block. This will be stated in the emails sent home.

How long will the meeting last?

It will usually take 35-45 minutes.

Is there anything I need to prepare?

It would be good to have a list of questions ready, but it's not necessary. You may like to consider what interests you or whether there are any particular career goals you have in mind already. Don't worry if you are shy or anxious, we won't put you on the spot but we will be interested in what you are studying and your predicted grades. We will send you notes afterwards with details of what we discussed and include lots of useful links.

How will I find out about the meeting?

Parents/carers and students will receive an email home the week before the meeting. We will put a reminder on Tutor Bulletins and your Tutor should also give you a slip with the meeting details on.

What happens if I forget to come along?

Don't forget! This is an important opportunity to discuss your future with a fully trained and qualified Careers professional!

This is time dedicated to focus on you and your next steps, and may be the only opportunity in your education journey to have time dedicated to you. If you cannot make the meeting due to illness, we will try to reschedule as soon as possible. If you need to reschedule, feel free to knock on the Careers Office door next to R11, or email us at careers@gfmat.org
